Watford vs Tottenham a few quick thoughts

  • 3rd in the league well at least for 24 hours, what a good Christmas period this is turning out to be
  • Those are the kind of wins that will get you in the Top 4 come the end of the season
  • It may not have been pretty at times but ultimately it’s the 3 points that matters
  • Thought Anthony Taylor had a poor game, set the tone with Dele Alli’s booking after 5 minutes which was the wrong decision. That said it was a Red for Nathan Ake so I shouldn’t moan too much but the Ref rarely had control of the game
  • Great opener from Erik Lamela, his shifty eyes left Gomes somewhere on the North Circular. He could have a second minutes later but it’s another positive performance from him and long may this form continue
  • Spurs going 3 at the back was an interesting tactical move it worked for the first 40 minutes but at the end of the day Odion Ighalo is an absolute battering ram. Even with the form our Defenders in, it was no great surprise that he got on the scoresheet due to the way he is playing as of late
  • Troy Deeney (must always be said in full) was a constant thorn in Kieran Trippier’s side
  • Mousa Dembele coming off injured is never a good sight, I can see him not taking part in the Everton game on Sunday which is a blow
  • Isn’t Goal Line Technology a great invention! – If that wasn’t in place then Ben Watson would have surely have been credited with a goal. Although credit must go to Hugo Lloris also
  • What a difference 90 seconds or so makes. Gomes flaps at the initial cross and then it comes back out to Trippier who then whips it into Son. His cheeky backheel may have had a hint of Offside but frankly who cares, sometimes you need that luck and we managed to snatch all 3 points
  • The side showed great maturity and in years gone by would have probably somehow lost that game against 10 men but credit where’s it due we didn’t let up and thouroughly deserved the win
  • Now a 5 point gap over Manchester United. If that gets any larger we have every right to be looking ahead and not over our shoulders
  • Everton next up on Sunday. They are handful going forward but very leaky at the back so are definitely the for the taking. Will 3 matches in a week prove too much for this Spurs squad. We wll have to wait and see but if someone offered you 7 points from the Christmas schedule I doubt you turn that down. Let’s hope the trip to Everton is a rewarding one. COYS!
