Match Of The Day a few quick thoughts

No 5 Good, 5 Bad today as I haven’t really got the time and I drunk too much yesterday but here are a few brief Match Of The Day musings.

  • Manchester United vs Chelsea was an absolute stinker. United were too afraid to lose and Chelsea played without a striker. A waste of time, money and effort going to the pub to watch that one, will that result be enough to keep Louis Van Gaal in a job?
  • Arsenal go top for at least 24 hours as they bounce back from their thumping by Southampton to coast to a win over Bournemouth. Mesut Ozil stole the headlines again with a goal and an assist, the final score line was only 2-0 but it could and should have been so much more. Arsenal and Ozil back in the groove after their temporary South Coast stutter
  • I’ve already covered Spurs’ win over Watford at length but it’s no surprise that Ian Wright wouldn’t tip them to league title contenders. I suppose you have to admire him still sticking to his guns after all these years.
  • A 7 goal thriller at Goodison Park. What a goal by Xhedran Shaqiri, did he mean it? I think he did. Stoke pick up their second win a row while Everton’s Defensive frailties are exposed again. For all their endeavor going forward it’s the back line which is letting them down and they now find themselves in the bottom half of the table.
  • As for Stoke, the image of their Football has totally transformed now. Dare I say they are actually quite an interesting side to watch. Credit to Mark Hughes for masterminding the change without compromising results
  • Aston Villa are going down. That’s it now, 8 points at the halfway stage is a terrible return. They still are searching for their first win since the opening day of the season and Remi Garde still hasn’t managed a winning Villa side since his appointment. Time to prepare for The Championship
  • Norwich put some daylight between them and drop zone. They took full advantage of a poor Villa side and anything less than a win would have been disappointing
  • West Ham got their first win in 9 matches. It wasn’t pretty and in Michail Antonio’s goal it was just a bit weird. He almost fell over his own legs and then the Southampton clearance ricocheted off his body for West Ham’s equaliser. Andy Carroll’s 2nd of the season completed the comeback and bought the winning feeling back to Upton Park. What a difference a win can make they are now back up to 7th.
  • A good win for West Brom as they pulled away from those teams fighting the drop. Not a good day for Newcastle as Rob Eliott was taken ill in the warm up. Saido Berahino didn’t make the starting line up again, is that the last time he is in a West Brom matchday squad?
  • Crystal Palace vs Swansea – I went to bed at this point
