- It didn’t quite live up to the stature of a Semi Final but Liverpool will be happy with their slender first leg advantage
- Although it came at a cost as hamstring injuries to Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren saw them subbed off in the first half
- Eyes were raised before kick off as Christian Benteke was dropped to the bench again but it seemed as if Jurgen Klopp went for a quicker front line with more ability to interchange and it’s fair to say the move paid off
- Liverpool certainly started the brighter
- Jordan Ibe’s goal was the difference, he took his finish well when Joe Allen miss kick fortunately landed at his feet
- Stoke were very subdued in the first half and it took a good half hour for even a half chance, although Simon Mignolet was tested just before half time by a Glen Johnson volley
- Stoke did look more dangerous when Jonathan Walters came on after the break but they couldn’t break down the Liverpool Defence
- Joe Allen had one of his better performances in a Liverpool shirt although he doesn’t look good in a beard
- Joselu also called Mignolet into action but that’s about as close as Stoke got
- Liverpool in the box seat for the 2nd leg at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp will be pleased with the way he side performed especially after the defeat at West Ham
