Waking up this morning and their are new UFWC champions and in emphatic style as Chile have routed previous holders Mexico 7-0.
Last year’s Copa America winners Chile moved on to the Semi Finals in ruthless fashion with Eduardo Vargas putting 4 past the hapless Mexicans
But it was Edson Puch who opened the scoring after 16 minutes while Vargas wouldn’t get on the scoresheet until just before half time.
After the restart the flurry of goals rained on the Mexico net.
Alexis Sanchez made it 3-0 soon after the restart with Vargas then scoring 3 unanswered goals to take his personal tally up to 4 and Chile now 6-0 up
Puch got his second of the night just before full time to cap off a miserable night for the UFWC holders as Mexico meekly bowed out of the tournament.
Chile now regain the UFWC crown that they won last year after winning the 2015 Copa America, they are now two games away from a successive Copa America/UFWC double
But standing in their way in the first title defence is Colombia who also had a spell as holders in last Summer’s tournament, with the winner of that clash going on to face either losing finalists from last year Argentina or hosts United States
After starting the tournament so well it’s an embarrassing end to the campaign for Mexico. It’s a performance that will have Juan Carlos Osorio scratching his head and he will have to make sure they bounce back straight away once the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers come round in again in September
As for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez he failed in his bid to be Mexico’s all time goalscorer after this blank. But with finishing prowess you know it will only be a matter of time before he finally breaks that record
Here is all you need to know from last nights rout
