  • Spain have booked their place in the Round of 16 with an impressive win over Turkey
  • Last night saw the holders become the first side to score 3 goals in the tournament as the strolled past Fatih Terim’s side
  • Many questioned after their win over Czech Republic on Monday if they were to struggle to get goals in this tournament but that certainly wasn’t the case last night
  • Alvaro Morata opened his tournament account and got Spain off the mark on 34 minutes, his header glancing past Volkan Babacan and into the Turkish net
  • Spain were to double their advantage soon after when reported Manchester City target Nolito made it 2-0
  • The Celta Vigo Forward latched on to an errant header from Mehmet Topal to put the 2008 and 2012 winners comfortably ahead
  • And if it wasn’t already secure by then it certainly was just after the restart when Alvaro Morata finished a stunning 22 pass build up to make it 3-0 and wrap up a win
  • Andres Iniesta was once again at the heart of the move which involved nine players, it was he who played the final pass to Juventus’ Morata and the newly shorn Morata was on hand to slot home
  • Spain may sometimes struggle to break down sides who want to sit deep and stifle them but that was definitely not the case last night as Turkey were ran ragged
  • Arda Turan once again had a sub par game as did Hakan Calhanoglu. Turkey’s great hopes were booed incesscently by their own fans
  • Turan had to ask for forgiveness after his performance in their defeat against Croatia last Sunday on the basis of last night’s defeat he will have to be asking for a lot more
  • Spain were in cruise control last night and they sent out a warning to the rest of the tournament that they are certainly not to be written off
  • They go into their final group game with Croatia knowing that a draw will be enough to top the group
  • While Turkey must beat the Czech Republic to retain any hope of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.
