Real Madrid vs Wolfsburg a few quick thoughts

  • It was another night for Ronal Madrid as the Portuguese star scored a hat-trick to turn round the 2-0 deficit from the first leg and break Wolfsburg hearts at The Bernabeu
  • He has now recorded his 91st, 92nd and 93rd Champions League goals which increases his already record haul
  • Wolfsburg were always going to be up against it last night and would have set out to frustrate Los Blancos
  • The key would have been the longer they can hold out the more they can frustrate Real
  • Only their gameplan would have been ruined within 17 minutes
  • Ronaldo halved the deficit on a quarter of an hour after Carvajal pounced on a sloppy pass in Midfield
  • Then with the impetus with Madrid parity was restored just a couple of minutes later as Ronaldo grabbed his second of the night
  • The next target for Wolfsburg was to get into half time level, thankfully for them they managed that but they then had to prepare for a Madrid onslaught for the next 45 minutes
  • Sergio Ramos thought he had Madrid ahead in the tie, his header hit the post and agonisingly rolled across the line. Diego Benaglio had just enough time to scoop it away from the line and keep the scores level
  • But Wolfsburg’s resolve was finally broken by….who else
  • With 13 minutes to go Real were awarded a long range free kick and there was only one man who was going to take it
  • Step forward Cristiano Ronaldo and his majestic strike fizzed past Bengalio to send the Bernabeu faithful into raptures
  • Job done for Zinedine Zidane’s side as they pulled off the turnaround and now go into the hat for the Semi Final draw
  • Wolfsburg were valiant in defeat but how costly was the failure to get a 3rd goal last week – well I said that was probably needed to kill them off in my preview it turns out it was

  1. It was expected for Real to win last night game but Ronaldo’s hattrick came up as a nice surprise. Is good to see Real going in the semi-finals, and i hope they manage perform better than last year, and reach the 2016 Champions League Final.
