Manchester City vs PSG a few quick thoughts

  • Manchester City win the battle of “El Cashico” as Abu Dhabi gets the better of Qatar
  • The blue half of Manchester reaches their first ever Champions League Semi Final as they look to go all the way and end Manuel Pellegrini’s reign as City boss on a high
  • Kevin De Bruyne once again was a thorn in PSG’s side as his late winner was the difference on the night
  • As it stood before then a draw was still enough for City as they kept their backline well marshalled to keep Ibrahimovic and company at bay
  • Joe Hart was undoubtedly Man of the Match as a string of fine saves kept the scores level
  • Notably an excellent save from a fizzing Ibrahimovic free kick, if I had tried to save that I would have probably lost an arm
  • It could have been wrapped up a lot sooner when City were awarded a first half Penalty
  • Kevin Trapp hauled down Sergio Aguero and was perhaps lucky not to have been sent off
  • He escaped with a yellow due to the fact that their were covering defenders
  • With Aguero stepping up to the spot you felt the opener was moments away, but his Penalty was incredibly poor by his own standards as he fired wide much to the dismay of the sell out Etihad crowd
  • With City ahead through De Bruyne, PSG had to throw the kitchen sink at City to have any chance of turning the game around
  • They had 15 minutes or so in which to do so and they were going to up against it
  • Ibrahimovic thought he had PSG level on the night but he was more than a yard offside and the goal was rightly chalked off by the officials
  • That was the last of PSG’s threat and City held out for a 1-0 win on the night but more importantly a 3-2 win on aggregate
  • What price Bayern Munich in the Semi Finals?
