The crisis at Aston Villa only continues even after relegation has been confirmed. Gabriel Agbonlahor has been suspended, Jores Okore is refusing to play and board members are resigning in their droves it goes from worse to abysmal for everyone connected to Villa Park as of late.
Last weekend saw relegation finally confirmed as they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. In fairness their was a modicum of respectability in their defeat but even that was far too little too late.
The latest leg of their Premier League farewell tour takes place with the visit of Southampton this Afternoon and The Saints have probably come to the realisation that a Europa League place next season will allude them.
They currently find themselves 8th and with Liverpool in a hot streak of form and still with a game in hand, it’s going to be difficult for Ronald Koeman’s side to bridge the gap.
Their cause wasn’t helped after being held to a draw away at Everton last Saturday. Those two dropped points means they are 5 points off of West Ham in 6th with 4 games to go. With The Hammers not playing this weekend it gives Southampton the chance to claw some of that back but in all likelihood they will have left themselves with to much to do.
The Saints may now have to rely on Manchester United and Liverpool to do them a favour, if United were to win The F.A. Cup and Liverpool the Europa League then it could open up 8th as a Europa League spot so Ronald Koeman may have to put a lot of faith in the efforts of others.
With this Villa side in nothing short of turmoil then anything less than 3 points would be a terrible outcome for Southampton and personally I can’t see anything less than an away win as The Saints go marching on.
