Manchester City slipped up in the race for Third in Midweek as they relinquished that spot due to a combination of their draw at Newcastle and Arsenal’s win at West Brom. They will look to win that spot back for at least 24 hours with victory over Stoke.
Sergio Aguero’s controversial goal on Tuesday was his 100th Premier League strike but it wasn’t enough to give City all three points at St James Park. Aguero’s header was clearly offside and should not have been allowed to stand.
They had Joe Hart to thank for being able to come away with just a point as a string of late saves frustrated Newcastle and stopped them for getting a crucial win which would have seen them move out of the bottom 3.
How their opponents Stoke could do with their England Goalkeeper right now. They haven’t won a game since Jack Butland’s injury and their season is ending with a whimper rather than a bang.
Last time out they were thumped 4-0 by title chasing Tottenham in what in all honesty could have been 5 or 6. They looked a yard slower in every part of the pitch on Monday and if they don’t raise their game they could be in for another torrid Afternoon.
Stoke’s season has finished now, Europa League hopes would have disappeared with the injury of Jack Butland’s and now all they can really hope for is a top half finish.
They will definitely be there for the taking and Manchester City will be looking to take full advantage of Stoke’s seemingly early season finish. I can’t see anything other than a Home win at The Etihad this Lunchtime as Aguero and Co look to snatch back 3rd for at least a day.
