Match Of The Day a few quick thoughts

  • Is this the moment when everyone finally decided that Leicester City can go on and win the Premier League
  • They absolutely ran Manchester City ragged yesterday and have now gone 6 points clear of them, it’s Tottenham who are their nearest rivals now but it’s in Leicester’s hands and with them only having 13 more fixtures to play all season then they are the clear favourites as it currently stands.
  • Robert Huth bagging a brace and Riyad Mahrez with a sumptuous strike yesterday Lunchtime just showing that this Fox is up for the hunt of a Premier League title.
  • As for City they had to make do with a Sergio Ageuro consolation and they now slip to 3rd. It’s only 4 wins in their last 8 league matches, certainly not title winning form.
  • Tottenham vs Watford – you can read here http://realfootballman.com/2016/02/07/tottenham-vs-watford-a-few-quick-thoughts/
  • Liverpool threw a two goal lead as their fans left en masse on 77 mintes to protest against the rise of ticket prices, by the time they got home they would have had a nasty shock. As would have Jurgen Klopp who wasn’t at the ground due to illness. Liverpool looked comfortable as they went 2-0 up but another error by Simon Mingolet allowed Sunderland back in the game and Jermain Defoe managed to snatch a crucial point for The Black Cats. Vital for Sunderland, miserable for Liverpool. Now 9th behind their Merseyside rivals Everton
  • That’s due to the fact that Everton have had a good week, still the attacking threat we know they can be but now they are shored up at the back. A second 3-0 win in less than a week. Home and hosed by the first half and the pressure is lifted on Jason Derulo’s number one fan Roberto Martinez.
  • As for Stoke, it’s the opposite three 3-0 defeats in a week. They really are missing Ryan Shawcross as of late and now find themselves without a win in 4 games and 11th in the table.
  • Aston Villa got a vital win yesterday over fellow relegation battlers Norwich, if they had lost yesterday it would have been all but over for Remi Garde’s side but goals from Joleon Lescott and a season first for Gabby Agbonlahor keep their feint chances of survival just about alive.
  • Norwich though now find themsleves in the bottom 3. That’s now 5 straight defeats for Alex Neil’s side and I think personally the bottom 3 as it is now will be what you see at the end of the season.
  • Newcastle are the beneficiaries of Norwich’s awful form as there win over West Brom sees them move up to 17th. Their new signings are starting to bed in with Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey making positive contributions to the side yesterday
  • Talking of awful. West Brom are as of late. The remit is simple, stay up but the Football is so unimaginative. That’s the dilemma for Baggies fans, would you rather stay up and be bored to tears or play more expansive Football and maybe yo-yo between the leagues?
  • Southampton are on a fantastic run. Unbeaten in 5 and Fraser Forster is yet to concede since returning to the side, if he keeps this up he’ll certainly be on the England plane for EURO 2016. While Victor Wanayama gets another enforced break thanks to his 3rd sending off of the season.
  • West Ham looked very uneventful and missed the opportunity to go top for at least 24 hours. They stay 6th with the Saints hot on their heels in 7th
  • Swansea and Crystal Palace shared the points, a point that was more useful for Swansea than it was Palace. Francesco Guidolin is yet to be taste defeat since taking charge of Swansea, it seems like his appointment could prove to be a smart move after all. As for Palace, they are probably wishing the season could have ended in December. No win for them since beating Stoke on December 19th. For all their hopes of a Top 6 finish at the end of last year they seem to be just a distant memory now.
