Aston Villa vs Arsenal a few quick thoughts

  • Well that game didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know
  • Arsenal regain top spot with a comfortable win at Villa Park
  • The Master beats The Apprentice as Remi Garde still looks for a first win since taking charge
  • Aston Villa still looking for a first win since the opening day of the season
  • Oliver Giroud gets his 4th goal in the space of a week and his 2nd from the spot
  • Kevin Friend’s decision to give the penalty was somewhat delayed and probably took influence from his assistant but in the end it was the correct one after Alan Hutton hauled down Theo Walcott in the box
  • Mesut Ozil made his 13th assist of the season as Arsenal’s second before half time killed off any faint hopes that Villa may have had of getting back in the game
  • David Moyes’ comments before the game that the jury is still a bit out on Ozil drew much ire from social media and Ozil’s performance today would have no doubt put egg on Moyes’ face
  • The manner in which Aston Villa conceded their second goal pretty much encapsulates as to why they will be relegated this season
  • For the last few years they have always relied on their being 3 worse teams then them in the league, this season they are the worst team
  • Jack Grealish returned from his demotion to the Under 21’s but had little effect in his cameo role off the bench
  • So Arsenal march on and go top while it’s a bleak midwinter for Villa.
