Chelsea fans may want to look away now with the news that their star player Eden Hazard has picked up an injury while on international duty with Belgium and it is quite a serious one also, with the news coming out of the camp being that he has suffered a broken ankle.
Hazard was set to play in a pair of upcoming fixtures, firstly tonight’s friendly against the Czech Republic and also a World Cup qualifier against Estonia on 9 June. The 26 year old will certainly miss those although it is not known just how long the injury will set him on the sidelines.
One thing it may throw into jeopardy though is a potential move to Real Madrid this summer. The defending Champions League winners may have only just held onto the trophy with a win over Juventus on Saturday night but they are already looking to next season.
It is believed they want to add another Galactico to their ranks with Hazard believed to be top of their shopping list, but of course any injury could scupper that move. A broken ankle takes at least 6 weeks to recover from meaning that Hazard would not be fit until mid July at the earliest.
That does give him enough time to be fit before the start of next season and the only time he would be missing is the off season itself, so if there was a time to get injured then although there is another perfect time in which to do so then at least this would be a preferential one.
Real Madrid will no doubt be keeping a keen eye on Hazard across this transfer window, even more so now that they have to deal with an injury diagnosis. The length of the injury will perhaps not scupper the move but it certainly will delay proceedings.
