Watford vs Liverpool a few quick thoughts

  • What a goal
  • Honestly I could probably just base this article on Emre Can’s winner last night
  • Quite frankly the German international is never going to score a better goal in the whole of his career
  • It was an absolutely stupendous effort and for me quite easily the goal of the season
  • To be fair the goal was the only real highlight of the game as people are still discussing that and not a lot else
  • But Liverpool are once again back in the driving seat in regards to a top four place after victory last night
  • If we had to be critical in regards to the goal then Nordin Amrabat should have stuck his head in and tried to clear the ball, then again the goal was too good to be critical
  • Liverpool certainly looked lively with the returning Adam Lallana back among the fold as he offered an extra impetus to the attack which was missing in the defeat to Crystal Palace
  • The game was by no means a classic and Watford rarely threatened
  • That said they did almost nick an undeserved point right at the death when Sebastian Prodl rattled the woodwork
  • Had Watford snatched a goal late on then it would have been very harsh on Jurgen Klopp’s men who now solidify 3rd place after both Manchester clubs slipped up at the weekend
  • They now go three points clear of Pep Guardiola’s City while Jose Mourinho’s United are a point further back
  • Both Manchester clubs still have a game in hand but Liverpool have the easier run-in
  • They have certainly be given a get out of jail free card after their defeat to Palace nine days and they very much used it last night
  • Not only that but they are nine points clear of Arsenal who lie in sixth, even though The Gunners have two games in hand it seems unlikely that Arsene Wenger’s men are going to leapfrog Liverpool
  • Therefore the question now remains where between third and fifth will Liverpool finish
  • A similar question can be asked about Watford as realistically they could still end up anywhere between ninth and sixteenth in the table
  • The higher they do finish then the better Walter Mazzari has of keeping his job next season
  • You get the feeling that they are going to have to finish strongly otherwise the former Inter Milan boss may well be shown the exit door
