Sunderland sign Kone in a bid to stop Opposition Traffic

Sunderland have signed Lamine Kone from Sunderland for what is believed to be an Undisclosed Fee. The 26 year old joins from Lorient and has signed a 4 year deal with the North East Side.

An initial attempt to sign the Ivory Coast International failed earlier in the month with Sam Allardyce saying that “Talks had broken down” but it seems as if Big Sam has finally got his man with the deal being completed Yesterday.

Allardyce has been relatively busy in the January Transfer Window with Kone being the 4th new face at The Stadium Of Light, Kone will join Jan Kirchoff in the Defensive ranks in a bid to beat survival. Although Kirchoff had an inauspicious debut against Tottenham almost a fortnight ago, so maybe Allardyce felt that someone else was needed. Whether Kone and Kirchoff becomes the new partnertship at the back remains to be seen, but bedding in two new Centre Backs at once could be a bit of a risk.

With Sunderland being knocked out of the F.A. Cup to Arsenal in the 3rd Round they have a weekend off so Kone will have to wait until February 2nd to make his debut as the 19th placed side in the Premier League play host to high flying Manchester City. Quite the baptism of fire for Kone then.
