After going 7 games unbeaten and not even conceding a Goal, Southampton have now lost two in a row and have slipped to 9th in the table. They will look to arrest that slide from going further as they play host to relegation battling Sunderland.
The Saints were second best in the South Coast Derby with Bournemouth on Tuesday and now also have to deal with the news that Charlie Austin will be ruled out for some time with injury. Southampton have the potential to be a top 6 side but they could also end up as low as 12th such is the congestion in that area of table.
Someone who would love to be 12th are Sunderland, although as it stands they’ll be delighted with 17th position as a last gasp point at home to Crystal Palace has seen them move out of the drop zone and above their local rivals Newcastle.
Sunderland will also need to pick up points on the road if they are to stay out of the bottom 3 but I don’t think they will have any joy at the St Mary’s this Afternoon. Southampton to return to winning ways, a home win for me.
