Bernardo Silva surfaces in Manchester

If there is one thing I have learned this week it is this, anyone connected to the world of Football with the surname Silva is an absolute writers dream. In all fairness I have absolutely exhausted my puns in relation to the former Hull City manager and now its time to create more laboured puns in regards to the Monaco midfielder.

Or could that be the former Monaco midfielder as the 22 year old has reportedly been spotted in Manchester and is believed to be having talks over at The Etihad with a view to linking up with Pep Guardiola and his band of City superstars.

But with the other Manchester club United celebrating their Europa League win earlier in the week they are also ready to splash the cash in a bid to not only bridge the gap on a domestic front but to also compete among Europe’s elite clubs.

If the Portuguese star does make a move away from the sunny climates of Monte Carlo it is believed to cost any prospective buyer something in the region of £35m, which when you consider Ross Barkley is reportedly worth £50m it is small change in comparison.

Manchester City are already favourites with Ladbrokes next season with current odds of 9/4 and should they manage to snare their signing of Bernardo Silva then they would no doubt be an even stronger outfit going into the start of the next campaign.

If you think City are worth their newly found favourites tag then you could have a flutter with Ladbrokes and make good use of their £20 promo code here – although if their arch rivals United were to hijack that move then their current odds of 4/1 would no doubt shorten.

Obviously United are going to spend big this summer with reports that they are targeting three or four “crazy signings” in a bid to bolster their squad and return to the Premier League summit for the first time since winning the title back in 2013.

Antoine Griezmann has been a long time target for Jose Mourinho and now that their return to the Champions League has been confirmed it means a move to Old Trafford for the French international looks a real distinct possibility.

That is not the only name that is prominent on Mourinho’s shopping list with Burnley’s Michael Keane targeted as the man to solidify United’s backline and Bernardo Silva would also be a very welcome addition to a United midfield that has at times misfired this season.

The most pertinent question is just how much gametime Silva would get with either club, you would get the feeling that he would have more of a squad role at City while a first team berth at United would be slightly more likely, ultimately this is a decision that he will have to weigh up.

How exactly could be accommodated into City’s starting eleven is unsure unless Pep Guardilola plans not to play without any holding midfielders. There is already an embarrassment of riches at The Etihad and acquiring Silva would only add to that.

After playing a large part in Monaco dumping Manchester City out of the Champions League this season it seems as if he has won a large admirer in Pep Guardiola and now the former Barcelona boss will look to get one over Mourinho and beat United to his signature. A move of some sort should be complete in the next few days, we now just have to wait to find out where he ends up.
