Sam Byram becomes a Hammer

West Ham have signed Defender Sam Byram from Leeds United for a fee believed to be £4m.
The 22 year old who came through the Yorkshire’s side Academy was out of contract at the end of the season and was refusing to sign an extension.

It seemed as if he was in demand from a string of Premier League clubs with Everton having a bid accepted on Friday. But Byram decided against moving to Merseyside and instead has opted for a move to East London.

For many it will be seen as a return home as Byram was born in Essex before moving to Yorkshire as a young boy. He will give competition to Carl Jenkinson in the immediate term but with Jenkinson only being on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season it’s believed that Byram will be the first choice Right Back for many years to come. Disappointment for Everton but a great bit of business for West Ham
