Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to rotate his squad for Wednesday’s FA Cup third-round replay at home to League Two Exeter City.
The German plans to name a similar side to that which drew 2-2 in the first meeting, although defender Jon Flanagan could return after over 18 months out.
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says his side have “nothing to lose”.
Editor’s Note: Jurgen Klopp could make as many as 11 changes for the visit of Exeter tonight. This will mean Christian Benteke leading the line again like he did in the first encounter also that will mean the return of the much maligned Adam Bogdan. It was his howler that put Exeter in front in the original tie, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping there’s not a repeat of that tonight. But then again this is Adam Bogdan we’re talking about.
Will Klopp go for a reserve team in all but name tonight or will have to show Exeter a bit more respect to make sure the job is done. Last Sunday they were victims of a smash and grab by Manchester United with Wayne Rooney grabbing a late winner from United’s only real effort. The problem Liverpool have is lack of available striking options. Roberto Firmino has done well but is a big game player and it would be hard to get the best out of him Tonight while Liverpool don’t play to Benteke’s strengths.
That said I don’t think they will slip up against Exeter twice, the South West club are already celebrating from the windfall that this replay has created. They’ll no doubt be looking to cause another upset tonight but did they miss their opportunity a fortnight ago? Paul Tisdale will be aiming to mastermind a shock not just on the pitch but with his fashion choices on the touchline also. I think Liverpool will have to much for Exeter at Home this evening, A comfortable home win for me.
