Another data piece now which I must say has filled the international break very nicely and allowed me to flex my data analysis muscles over the past few days. After taking trips (not literally) to England and Spain we now cast our eye to France and Ligue 1.
The concept is to rank each of the 20 teams in order of shot efficiency and then also seeing how their place in this charts compares to where they sit in the league table and whether or not there is a wide ranging variance between the two.
With it being the first week of data from France there is nothing to compare and contrast but going forward we will be able to look at how the metrics have changed from week to week. Not only that but all the data will then get plugged into a chart depicting the top and bottom 20 teams across the continent in this particular field.
Not only that though but we can flip the project on its head and also look at the amount shots a team faces before conceding a goal, so that is something I am certainly going to look into as the project not only evolves but seems to get bigger and bigger.
Next up the project will continue with a trip to the Bundesliga for the first time as we look who tops the charts in Germany, will Bayern rule the roost in the home of efficiency or will a different team top the rankings? Keep an eye out for that.
Thanks as always to whoscored for the data.
I hope this is of interest to you and if you have any football data work available then please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org as I am always looking to undertake additional projects to the ones I already have. Thanks, Dan.
