Ok for Ilkay could mean bye bye for Yaya

With the Pep Guardiola revolution at Manchester City around the corner it seems as if the first signing of that era is set to be made with Borussia Dortmund’s Midfielder Illkay Gundogan set to join the club for £20m pounds

Although the 25 year old has recently undergone knee surgery which will see him miss this Summer’s European Championship and the start of the next season that won’t be enough to halt any move to The Etihad as Pep Guardiola goes about the rebuilding job that will be undertaken this Summer

Gundogan has been with injury problems in the past though as he missed the whole of the 2013-14 season and subsequently the World Cup that Summer due to a back problem. So although he’s not coming to the club in full fitness, there would still be a long line of suitors for the Dortmund Midfielder and City feel it’s a move they can’t afford to lose out on

If Gundogan is on his way in, does that mean that Pep Guardiola is to sell Yaya Toure for a second time? It was Guardiola who was in charge of Barcelona when Toure left back in 2010. Back then Toure was allowed to leave in search of regular first team Football as it couldn’t be promised at the Nou Camp now it seems as if a reshuffle at City could mean Toure is shown the exit door

With Toure now 33 year old you would have to imagine that he will be one of the players that is upgraded for a younger model. The Ivorian is no longer the roaming midfielder who drifts from box to box and although he can still be a threat in the middle of the park, last season showed that age is starting to catch up with him

That’s no shame at 33, as your legs are never going to last forever but too many times last season he looked languid in the centre of the park and his performances all but summed up City’s season. Moments of magic but largely off the pace

As for Toure where would go next, you couldn’t rule out a bumper payday in China could you. With the wages he is already on you wonder who if anyone would be able to afford his salary. Only clubs in the far east would be prepared to take on that financial burden with no return on their investment

With Gundogan set to be the first player in it means that Dortmund once again lose on of their top players. After losing Mats Hummels to Bayern you wonder how they can keep regenerating after the continual talent drain. Dortmund Manager Thomas Tuchel will have his work cut out in the Summer to keep them even close to Bayern’s coat tails

While in Manchester Pep Guardiola will have to mastermind quite the upheaval of players if they are to challenge next season. He has been left with an ageing squad and you could make a case for a good half dozen departures this Summer. Gundogan maybe the first signing but he surely won’t be the last.
