It looks as if the current Head Coach at Swansea Francesco Guidolin is set to stay in the charge of the club next season with Chairman Huw Jenkins ready to offer the 60 year old a new contract as a reward for keeping the club up this season.
It will be nothing short of deserved for Guidolin who was appointed in January and has seen the South Wales club move up to 11th in the table with just a game to go. Quite the reversal of fortune from when Guidolin was brought in with the club in the drop zone.
He was bought in to help out Alan Curtis who it’s fair to say looked a bit out of depth after initially being named Caretaker Manager until the end of the season. The appointment of Guidolin may have raised a few eyebrows but credit to Huw Jenkins he has got this one spot on.
With Guidolin set to stay that means no return for the prodigal son otherwise known as Brendan Rodgers. It was reported that Rodgers was eyeing up a return but was not prepared to commit on anything until Swansea’s safety was assured
Well it seems as if he was too late and he now has missed out on an opportunity to return to The Liberty Stadium. It does ask the question where will Rodgers actually end up next? – has his ego got in the way of him being appointed
How long can Rodgers afford to be out of management. He may be waiting for a so called big job, but those are few and far between and it’s fair to say that his stock isn’t as high as that of 2014 when he took Liverpool to Premier League runners up.
Could he be tempted by a job at Newcastle if they get relegated and Rafa Benitez exits the door. It’s certainly a big club but it’s also going to be a massive job for whoever takes over that hot seat. There needs to be a big overhaul there this Summer if they do go down and Brendan could very well be the man to do it
