Sunderland vs Everton – Match Preview

Sunderland go into Tonight’s game knowing that they are just one win away from securing Premier League survival and in turn relegated their nearest rivals Newcastle. If they can beat an Everton side that flattered to deceive all season then the objective will be complete by 10pm this Evening.

They go into this clash having only lost two out of their last ten matches, that said they have only won two in that same period but more importantly they bagged a crucial win at home to Chelsea to leave their fate in their own hands

They got the better of a 5 goal thriller at The Stadium of Light on Saturday as goals from Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe saw then overturn a 2-1 deficit and to grab all 3 points and climb above Newcastle with this game in hand at home to Everton.

Confidence will be high at in the Sunderland camp and they very much feel that they can secure survival as they face an Everton side who have been nothing short than abysmal on the road as of late with back to back drubbings coming from their travels

After their Merseyside Derby misery last month they were easily beaten by new champions Leicester last Saturday. It was only Kevin Mirallas’ late goal which gave Everton scant consolation and that defeat also heaped even more pressure on Roberto Martinez

Everton could move up a place tonight if they were to beat Sunderland and keep hopes of a Top 10 finish alive but will that be enough in the eyes of the Everton board as they decide the fate of Roberto Martinez, after these last two defeats he looks like a dead man walking

He’s lost large parts of the fanbase who decided to stay behind after their home win over Bournemouth 10 days ago. It seems the vocal element of the fans is getting louder in terms of Martinez Out and once you’ve lost the fans you more often than not have invariably lost the board.

I think Everton are very much there for the taking Tonight and Sunderland aren’t going to have a much better chance of securing survival with a game to go. I think it’s going to be the win that Sunderland need and many people calling in sick on Wearside come Thursday. Home win and safety for The Black Cats.
