Guest Article – New Year Premier League Transfers I’d Like To See

It’s the second in my new series of Guest Articles here at RealFootballMan after the opening from Stefan which was posted yesterday it’s now time for my second new signing Daniel Steeden. Daniel is the creator of https://bostonstandblog.wordpress.com/ and today he has written a piece regarding the Premier League transfers that he would like to see in January. Over to you Dan

It’s January everyone! That time of year when everyone is making resolutions they won’t stick to, gagging for the January Fantasy Football wildcard and begging the footballing gods for a season-changing marquee signing.

This season’s Premier League is wide open and arguably the most interesting it has been for a long time. While PSG are 19 points ahead of anybody else in Ligue 1 and Bayern Munich are the only team that look like winning the Bundesliga, the Premier League title race is anyone’s game and there’s some logic behind this.

If you look at other European leagues you see top teams with star players that put them far beyond their domestic competition. The French league is the perfect example this year. The difference in talent between Zlatan Ibrahimovic of 1st place PSG and Lacina Traore of 2nd place Monaco goes a long way to explain the 19-point difference between the aforementioned teams.

If we compare this to the Premier League, the difference between Olivier Giroud of 1st place Arsenal and Odion Ighalo of 8th place Watford or Romelu Lukaku of 11th place Everton is barely noticeable and the reason that nobody can quite manage to take hold of the league this season. It also offers a potential reason why our Champions League pursuits aren’t so fruitful but that’s a different article.

With this in mind, I’m going to take a look at some Premier League transfers I’d like to see in the New Year.

  1. Ronaldo to Manchester United

If you’re talking about star players making a team stand out then Ronaldo is one of the first names that springs to mind. I don’t think it’s any real secret that Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid and Manchester United seems like a possibility.

With United quickly becoming famous for making the 0-0 draw even more boring than ever before it’s the least they can do to turn to potentially the best goal scorer in the world.

Even if you think he’s slightly past his prime (which I’m beginning to think myself) he would be an excellent addition to United’s attacking line-up and he would be an instant fan favourite. Even just for the buzz he’d add to the league in the short term, this is a transfer I’d love to see.

  1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic to any Premier League club

I’ve already talked about Zlatan’s influence at PSG and he’s a player that can bring fireworks to the Premier League no matter what team he were to join. It’s impossible to argue with his talent and he has brought success to every club he has played for. Remember his bicycle kick against England? Yeah, that one. Imagine if he once and for all proved he could do it on a rainy night in Stoke. Incidentally, given their current transfer success, Stoke might end up signing Zlatan themselves. Or he could fit in with with the ‘ovic’ club Chelsea alongside Ivanovic and Abramovich. I don’t care which club he goes to as long as it’s a Premier League one. Or Wigan.

  1. Alex Teixeira to Chelsea

This one might be slightly driven by how good this guy is on FIFA 16 but he’s not bad in real life either. 22 goals in 15 league appearances for Shakhtar Donestsk and 2 against Real Madrid in the Champions League are some very good stats and he’s been linked with a £30 million move to Chelsea. A big move like this would see his chances of breaking into the Brazil national team skyrocket and I for one would love to see him flourish at a Premier League club and watch him become the massive talent that he can become.

  1. Iñaki Williams to Everton

Athletic Bilbao have a greatly talented youngster in Williams and he burst onto the international scene when videos of his goal against Espanyol went viral. He has been compared to Gareth Bale in his directness and speed and was arguably the best player in Athletic’s defeat of Real Madrid earlier this season. It’s not just his attacking play that has earned him plaudits as his defensive game is solid too which explains the Bale comparisons. He’s a player that could see a lot of growth in the Premier League and could be one to watch in the future even if he doesn’t feature in the English league anytime soon.

  1. Pep Guardiola to England

This is my final transfer I’d like to see and I’ve gone for a managerial one. It seems relatively certain that Guardiola will be coming to the Premier League next year and whether it be at Manchester City or any other club he will certainly bring a lot of excitement. If English teams are going to be competing for the Champions League trophy then it’s not just players they will need and if there’s any manager that can get an English club Europe’s top silverware it’s Pep Guardiola.

Pep concludes my New Year wish list and now it only remains to be seen how many of these become a reality.

Thanks for that Daniel, I’d say you are more than likely to get your wish for Number 3 and the news of Number 5 has taken a step forward but I can’t see anything concrete happening until June at the earliest on that front. As for Number 1 well even Manchester United fans may think that’s a dream too far.

So that concludes the second of the new series of guest articles. If you would like to have any content posted on here then please feel free to contact me at realfootballmanwordpress@gmail.com and hopefully we can get something of yours up as well.
