Real Football Man All of the Football, All of the time
Liverpool will be buoyant after their 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa on Sunday. Whether Liverpool were rampant that Afternoon or Villa were just rank bad remains to be argued but Jurgen Klopp won’t care all that much as his side returned to winning ways and the relative sanctity of 8th in the Premier League.
It was a first win in 3 matches for Liverpool and what would have pleased Klopp the most was not only the fact that there were 6 different scorers that today but Daniel Sturridge was one of them after returning from an injury setback.
Another key player on Sunday and also returning to the side was Philippe Coutinho, he played a part in two of the goals and Liverpool looked like they have certainly missed him as of late as he was pulling the strings with ease at Villa Park.
Tonight Jurgen Klopp returns to Germany sooner than he may have anticipated as they visit Augsburg who are 14th in the Bundesliga and haven’t won in their last 4 matches. They had a Valentines Day Massacre of their own as they lost to perennial giants Bayern Munich on Sunday.
For Augsberg it’s fair to say that this season isn’t quite matching the heights of the one before and the reason they got into the Europa League, now their main focus is making sure they don’t get dragged into a relegation/promotion play off at the end of the season with them being just 1 point from safety at present.
With Augsberg’s form at present I can’t see Liverpool having too many problems this Evening. They will certainly be taking this competition seriously what with the added carrot of a direct route to next season’s Champions League especially with the Premier League route all but closed. I think it will be a comfortable away win and one foot in the next round for Liverpool.
