Atletico Madrid have moved back into the Champions League places with a comfortable 2-0 win over Eibar yesterday. Diego Simeone’s side have lost ground in terms of the title race and with Real Madrid brushing past all that try and get between them you would have to say that Atleti’s chances of La Liga silverware this season have almost evaporated.
And now the main task that Simeone’s side have is making sure they finish in the Top 4 to make sure they are still part of Europe’s elite next season. This outfit have almost saved their best performances for the Champions League and will certainly want to continue to be a part of it should they not go on and win this season’s edition.
They’ve helped their chances of appearing in the competition with a solid performance yesterday. Goals from Saul Niguez and Premier League transfer target Antoine Griezmann wrapped up the three points to see Atletico move up to 4th.
They will now have to hope that one of their biggest rivals Barcelona do them a favour and beat Villarreal later this evening.
