Barcelona blew their opportunity to go back to the top of La Liga after losing a 7 goal thriller in Northern Spain at the hands of Celta Vigo. The Galician outfit raced into a shock 3-0 lead before the break thanks to goals from Pione Sisto, Iago Aspas and a Jeremy Mathieu Own Goal.
That left Barcelona with a lot to do and also without their mercurial captain Leo Messi who is still absent through injury but after the break they gave it a real good go and at one point they looked likely to salvage at least a point after Neymar and Gerard Pique were on hand to reduce the arrears to 3-2
But then Barcelona’s night went from bad to worse when Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s howler let Pablo Hernandez in to make it 4-2 to Celta and all but wrap up a memorable victory. They were in for a tight finish though when Pique got his second of the night but Celta held out the late onslaught and came away 4-3 winners much to the surprise of just about everyone
That defeat leaves Barcelona a lowly 4th by their own standards going in to the international break as they sit two points behind both Atletico and Real and a single point behind Sevilla who are in third. Luis Enrique will be counting down the days until Lionel Messi’s return. Two defeats already for the Catalan giants, it seems they aren’t invincible after all.
