BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 48

Tuesday morning is upon us and that means it is once again time for another portion of transfer gossip, hold tight as I debunk the latest rumours in the world of football

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Chelsea striker Diego Costa, 28, will not report for pre-season training with the rest of the squad on Tuesday as he continues to look for a move. (Marca) He has been looking for a move since Antonio Conte told him he is not part of his plans, problem is he cannot find a new club

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has told Chelsea his club will not sell left-back Alex Sandro, 26. (Sport Mediaset, via Star) That could all but end Conte’s hopes of landing the Brazilian with £60+m not enough to prize Sandro away from Turin

Blues boss Antonio Conte is interested in Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, 27. (Mail) Could offer something to Chelsea as an extra midfielder now that Matic has left for Manchester United but would only be a squad player at Stamford Bridge

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could move for Bayern Munich’s 19-year-old Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches if playmaker Philippe Coutinho, 25, leaves for Barcelona. (Bild, via Mirror) All about the transfer dominoes that will fall should Neymar move to PSG, I wrote about this one yesterday

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, 26, is set for talks with new manager Mauricio Pellegrino this week, with Liverpool prepared to break their transfer record to sign the Dutchman. (Liverpool Echo) When will Liverpool come back in with another bid, you would have to imagine they will try their luck once more before the window ends

Liverpool are interested in Monaco’s 21-year-old midfielder Thomas Lemar, who is also a target for Arsenal. (Le10Sport – in French) I’d say the odds are 50/50 at best for Liverpool

Manchester City’s England Under-17 winger Jadon Sancho could be set to leave after the 17-year-old failed to report for training on several occasions. (Telegraph) Probably because he knows he’ll never get a game for City. I don’t blame the lad

Inter Milan are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of 23-year-old Nice defender Dalbert for £17m. (TMW, via Talksport) Which is Nice….although if they do qualify for the Champions League Group Stages then this move may not go ahead

Tottenham and Inter Milan are biding their time before making a move for Paris St-Germain full-back Serge Aurier in the hope the 24-year-old’s asking price will decrease. (La Parisien, via ESPN) Could be a smart addition to Tottenham’s squad especially with the departure of Kyle Walker, he may struggle to get a Visa though after being arrested previously

Newcastle United want Arsenal forward Lucas Perez, 28, but are not ready to match the Gunners’ £13.4m valuation. (London Evening Standard) Small change in today’s market, someone will end up stumping up the necessary cash to end Perez’s Arsenal misery

Everton will step up their pursuit of Swansea’s 27-year-old attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson by offering a £50m part-exchange deal that would see 19-year-old full-back Callum Connolly join the Welsh club. (Wales Online) I think Swansea will want to hold out for just the cash, although they would rather hold out and keep the player

Serie A sides Cagliari, Sassuolo and Verona are all interested in Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson, 25. (Corriere dello Sport, via Talksport) If I was Jenkinson, I’d move abroad and try my luck. Then again it is much easier for British players to stay in the confines of the domestic leagues. We’ll see if this has any legs to it

Watford expect to complete the signing of Fluminense forward Richarlison over the next few days, provided the 20-year-old Brazilian is granted a work permit. (Hertfordshire Mercury) Hold on to your hats Watford fans

Newcastle risk missing out on £17.5m-rated Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris, 28. (Mirror) Just pay the money Newcastle

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant met Levski Sofia’s owners about taking over as manager of the Bulgarian club. (Standart – in Bulgarian) That is Levski Sofia being relegated then

Sheffield United and Barnsley are pursuing 24-year-old Huddersfield striker Joe Lolley. (Mail) Suck on that
