In a night where The Nou Camp played tribute to Johan Cruyff, unfortunately for Barcelona they couldn’t mark their respects in the most perfect of ways as Real Madrid managed to come away with all 3 points.
That win sees Barcelona’s run of 39 games unbeaten in all competitions come to and end and more importantly keeps Real Madrid in the title race. The gap is now down to 7 points thanks to Ronaldo’s winner. Although Barcelona do have a better head to head record between the two sides so that in effect counts an extra point.
The game was not without the usual drama and the win was all the more sweeter for Real considering they were down to 10 men. A big win for Zinedine Zidane who has only lost once since taking the Real Madrid job.
It was a quiet night for the MSN as neither of the three managed to get on the scoresheet, with Ronaldo winning the personal battle with Lionel Messi this time around.
