Absolutely no-one surprised as Lionel Messi is voted World Player Of The Year again

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best player for the fifth time.

The 28-year-old Argentine had 41.33% of the vote, with Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo (27.76%) second and Barca’s Neymar (7.86%) third.

Editor’s Note: Well it’s hardly news really is it. As the headline suggests I doubt anyone is too surprised that Messi has scooped a 5th Golden Ball trophy, the big question will be how much of a sulk on will Cristiano Ronaldo have this year?

In all seriousness though in a calendar year which has seen Messi win 5 trophies for Barcelona you really couldn’t look much further than the diminutive Argentine. If it wasn’t for Cristiano Ronaldo then it probably would have been a Messi, Neymar, Suarez clean sweep. More cause for celebration tonight in Catalonia and more misery in Madrid.
