Tottenham vs Fiorentina a few quick thoughts

  • I actually had a front row seat at White Hart Lane last night
  • Which isn’t as good as it sounds because you can’t see the far touchline or any action on the opposite side of the pitch
  • I couldn’t see much but the atmosphere especially in the Second Half was pretty special
  • But from what I could see, Tottenham were in control for the whole game
  • For a side without a recognised Striker on the pitch last night there may have been concerns as to where the Goals would come from but they need not worry as a real team outfit fired Tottenham into the Round of 16
  • Ryan Mason’s cool finish in the first half gave Tottenham the lead in the tie and settled any nerves the North London side may have had
  • You felt Tottenham would probably need to get a second just to make the tie safe and after the break Erik Lamela did exactly that
  • He swiveled and turned home a rebounded shot to all but assure Spurs of progression to the next stage of the compeition
  • A Gonzalo Rodriguez Own Goal compiled Fiorentina’s misery and gave Tottenham a well deserved third and proceedings were wrapped up
  • The only blot on Tottenham’s copybook was the suspension to Dele Alli for the next game, but if they are to go all the way then maybe it’s better to get this out of the way before heartbreak in the Final
  • Dele Alli was Man of The Match. He looks even better up close and rightfully got a standing ovation when he was subbed off late on
  • I don’t think the Referee had a particularly good game if truth be told but Spurs won’t care all that much
  • No Mousa Dembele but if he is back in time for the North London Derby then the rest will do him good
  • On the basis of last nights performance there is absolutely no reason why they can’t go on and win this. If they were it would be a Champions League insurance policy were the worst to happen between now and the end of the season
  • The Round of 16 Draw awaits Spurs this Lunchtime, it’s now an open draw. What price on Manchester United or Liverpool being drawn as their opponents
  • Focus now turns to Swansea at Home and those two London Derby’s to follow, it’s going to be a pivotal week in Tottenham’s flourishing season.
