The fallout from Super Sunday

It was undoubtedly the biggest day of the Premier League season so far but the question is who were the real winners and losers from this and where does the title race go from here?

On the surface of things then their has been a massive shift to North London with both Arsenal and Tottenham recording key victories Yesterday. Arsenal winning at the death while there most hated rivals showing a possible coming of age performance at The Etihad.

Leicester were clearly in the box seat at half time of their clash and at that point where 8 points clear of Arsenal, this was a game that Arsene Wenger’s side just simply couldn’t afford to lose and the turning point of that game was Danny Simpson’s Red Card. Yes it was a soft way to get Sent Off but you couldn’t argue too much with the decision.

Martin Atkinson didn’t have the best of games, should Jamie Vardy have had a Penalty. Probably due to the fact that Nacho Monreal offered Vardy enough to go down. Atkinson missed Danny Drinkwater’s horror lunge on Aaron Ramsey and Leicester were lucky not to be down to 9 Men for the last 20 minutes or so

That in itself though didn’t lose Leicester the game it was the naivety and poor game management right at the end when Marcin Wasilewski’s needless tackle in the 94th gave The Gunners one last roll of the dice which the most Super of Subs Danny Welbeck took full advantage off as he flicked on Mesut Ozil’s freekick into the net.

A cruel blow for Leicester and a seismic shift in the title race, yes Leicester may still be top but that is an absolute sucker punch in terms of the title race. They could have kept Arsenal at bay but now The Gunners are right back in the mix.

By about 2:30pm it was most definitely advantage Arsenal in the race for the title they had placed their marker and now it was time to see what would happen in Manchester as 3rd place Tottenham traveled to 4th place Manchester City.

By 6:30pm the momentum has definitely swung back to Spurs. A huge win for Mauricio Pochettino’s young side, the Spurs of old would and have lost that game late on but this side showed real fight and determination. It wasn’t even anywhere near their best performance of the season but that almost showed why they are now serious contenders for the Premier League title.

Yes Spurs may have had a massive slice of luck with the Penalty call but that is just the way it goes. Yes you’d be absolutely fuming if the decision went against you but if it goes your way then you have to make sure you take full advantage of it and Harry Kane duly did.

It was the jubilation after the game that showed the team spirit coming out of the Tottenham camp, Mauricio Pochettino individually going up to every player and giving them a high five, even going as far to pick up Danny Rose. The gesture to the traveling fans made you sit up and think “maybe we can do this after all”

The title isn’t going to be won or lost on Sunday’s results but the lay of the land has certainly changed somewhat. Will Leicester buckle, can Manchester City get back into this with a 6 point deficit and as for the North London Derby on March 5th that is going to be absolutely massive, Dare I say the biggest won ever.

This is a game which at this point of the season is usually for the final Champions League place this one could have a massive say in the destination of the title. I’m going to my first ever North London Derby that day and I’m nervous even now. I’m not sure you can even enjoy big games like that but I will certainly try.

As for Aston Villa’s defeat to Liverpool if they were a race horse they would have been shot by now.
