- An early relegation 6 pointer
- My word it rained
- and rained some more
- and kept raining
- The first half was quite a tough watch and only sparked into life once Fabrizio Coloccini put Newcastle in front after 38 minutes
- Brad Guzan might have done better to keep the effort out but Villa’s defending for the goal was poor
- At half time the best Villa could have hoped for is the rain continue to teem down and the match getting abandoned
- The game did continue and credit to Villa they did look better in the second half
- But Siem De Jong should have killed the game off and made it 2-0 to The Magpies, how on earth did he miss that header?. It seemed easier to score
- Rudi Gestede came on for Villa and they looked immediately more vibrant
- Just a minute or so later Jordan Ayew scored a fantastic effort to level things up
- Newcastle then had another opportunity to go ahead when Wijnaldum spurned his effort. It seemed they had a case of Double Dutch letting them down in front of goal
- They could have still snatched all 3 points in injury time but last weeks hero Ayose Perez fired his shot over the bar
- Aston Villa will certainly be the more grateful of the two sides with a share of the points
- But its a win that does neither side any favours especially not Villa
- They still are looking for their first win since the opening day of the season, while Remi Garde is still looking for his first win since taking charge of the club
- Newcastle have 7 points from 9 but will certainly look at this evening a missed opportunity especially with wins for Bournemouth and Norwich earlier
- As for Villa, they must be down….mustn’t they?
