- Manchester City progress to the Quarter Finals of the Champions League for the first time but it comes at a price with two Centre Backs coming off injured
- Vincent Kompany is ruled out for a month after a recurrence of his calf injury
- While Nicolas Otamendi also came off injured
- That means Kompany will miss both legs of the Quarter Final tie which will be a serious blow for Manuel Pellegrini
- Also you would imagine after City’s form without Kompany this season that has all but killed off their title winning hopes
- Could that even hamper their Champions League hopes next season?
- A slump in Premier League form between now and May and Pep Guardiola could be taking over a team preparing for life in the Europa League
- Which is obviously not what he had in mind when signing up to take over The Etihad hotseat from Manuel Pellegrini
- Truth be told the game last night wasn’t a great one. A very lethargic encounter that of almost testimonial pace
- City did all their hard work in the first leg but will probably be disappointed they didn’t at least win on home soil
- Jesus Navas had City’s best chance of the game but he hit the post, you could argue that if someone with better finishing was in that position they probably would have scored
- They now join Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Paris St-Germain, Real Madrid, Wolfsburg and in the Quarter Final line up
- With Barcelona having one foot in the Quarters also. Manuel Pellegrini will want to avoid the Catalan giants for a third season in a row
- But before that the focus shifts to Sunday’s Manchester Derby and how much of boost will United have knowing that Kompany won’t be playing
- West Ham will also be watching this game with close interest and hoping that the two sides take points off each other
- It’s going to be an interesting couple of months now up in Manchester
