England vs France a few quick thoughts

  • Great respect shown by everyone at Wembley last night and the stadium wide singing of La Marseillaise was something quite emotive. Credit to the French for going out on playing last night
  • Unsurprisingly France were quite subdued last night but to be honest for them the result wasn’t really that important, it was more to show the world that people won’t be beaten and cower in fear at the face of Terrorism
  • Anyway about the Football
  • Quite an enjoyable watch actually
  • A young England side – average age of 24. The youngest under Roy Hodgson, this bodes well going forward
  • Dele Alli – wow what a goal, this man has arrived on the European stage. Bar injury I think that goal will have booked his flight to EURO 2016
  • A solid Tottenham Midfield was pleasing to see from my point of view and I wouldn’t be surprised if both Dele Alli and Eric Dier both went to France next Summer
  • Harry Kane looked good and could have scored his own cracker in the second half as his shot whistled past Hugo Lloris
  • A clean sheet is always a happy sight and Jack Butland had a very steady 45 mins when coming on for Joe Hart
  • Had we lost to both Spain and France you would have said that England have found their level. But a win last night gives up optimism that we can beat the best nations, although under the circumstances maybe France weren’t the best barometer of how good we are
  • No fixtures until next year so very few opportunities for people to nudge their way into Roy Hodgson’s plans bar a late surge of form from someone (it always happens) I expect the bulk of the squad will be already undecided unless there is a major injury (it always happens)
