Chelsea vs Manchester City a few quick thoughts

  • Chelsea ended up running out comfortable winners over a near Manchester City reserve side
  • Manuel Pellegrini went on record beforehand saying that changes would have to be made due to the fact that they have Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Wednesday
  • This just highlights how the F.A. Cup has fallen in importance compared to Europe’s top club competition
  • With the lineup that City put out the game was all but their for the taking for Guus Hiddink’s side
  • Diego Costa put them ahead after 35 Minutes. His header from Eden Hazard’s pin point cross was easily nodded home
  • You would have thought that would have been almost that but Chelsea switched off moments later and David Faupala levelled for City
  • Cesar Azpilicueta’s attempted clearance cannoned off of Faupala and into the roof of net, Faupala would have not known much about it but he would have no doubt been delighted to get his first Senior Goal for the club
  • But that would be as good as it got for Manuel Pellegrini’s side as Chelsea turned on the style afte the break and the difference in line ups really shown through
  • Firstly Willian put them ahead soon after the break, quickly followed by a Gary Cahill Goal
  • Eden Hazard deflected free kick put the game way past City and Bernard Traore completed the rout as his header looped into the net
  • It could have been even worse had Oscar not missed his 2nd Penalty of the season. His tame effort was saved by Willy Caballero
  • In the end it was a stroll in the park for Chelsea and a miserable day for City, spare a thought for the traveling away fans who have had to watch Men vs Boys
  • For City this lineup will only really pay off if they deliver Champions League progress otherwise it would have been for nothing. It’s now only a possible Treble but I think there only hope of a trophy is next Sunday’s Capital One Cup Final
  • As for Chelsea you would have to make them one of if not the favourites to win the Cup and for Guus Hiddink repeat his feat of winning it while Interim Manager back in 2009.
