Real Football Man All of the Football, All of the time
If we learned anything on Monday it’s that if you are a team chasing a possible Premier League title then don’t come up against a Tony Pulis side. That’s the second time that Pulis has masterminded a spanner in the works for a team 2nd in the league and in turn all but ended their hopes of the title. It was Liverpool in 2014 and now it’s Tottenham in 2016.
Craig Dawson atoned for his earlier error after putting into his own net by heading at the right end to give The Baggies a point and massively derail Tottenham’s title tilt. It was two massive points dropped for Tottenham in a game that West Brom have nothing to play for. But let’s be honest the Premier League doesn’t make any sense this season does it.
The only thing that Tony Pulis has to play for is a new contract for next season, the stronger the finish then the higher the likelihood that he will be awarded one. He will look to upset another London side in the shape of West Ham this Afternoon.
West Ham are unbeaten in 9 matches but a mixture of too many draws and dodgy refereeing decisions has all but killed off their hopes of a Top 4 finish and now they have to make sure that Liverpool don’t overtake them into 6th place. A place that could be all the more important if Liverpool fail to win the Europa League.
They weren’t in action last weekend as their fixture with Manchester United was rescheduled to the Red Devils cup exploits. But their last action saw a comfortable win over a Watford side who are also done for the season so they will hope they can get a similar outcome over The Baggies this Afternoon.
Although they are unbeaten in 9, they’ve only managed to keep 1 clean sheet in that run so that does suggest that they are susceptible to a leak at the back. But with Dimiti Payet pulling the strings in Midfield they always seem likely to score one more than their opposition.
That said I don’t think that will be the case at The Hawthorns this Afternoon. I reckon West Brom will manage to come away from this one with a point and then put a dent in The Hammers European aspirations also. A share of the points for me.
