Wednesday Transfer Round Up

Middlesbrough’s Summer spending shows no signs of slowing down as the announced another arrival today. That being the season loan signing of Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo. The ex Manchester City man returns to the Premier League and will now be tasked with scoring the goals that will hope to keep up The ‘Boro up in their first season back in the top flight since 2009.

Although that signature bought some good news there was also bad news for ‘Boro fans as the attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic fell through due to a failed medical. The Serbian international was diagnosed with a rib injury, one that will see him out injured until early 2017. Bad news for fans of Aitor Karanka’s side but good news for Dortmund fans as at least they won’t be seeing another off the stars depart this Summer. Then again the fact that Thomas Teuchel was prepared to let him leave shows that he probably isn’t in any first team plans right now.

From Tyneside to Turkey now and Mario Gomez has announced his intentions to leave Turkish side Besiktas after the country’s failed military coup on Friday night. Gomez has cited the fact that he no longer feels safe and will now be looking for a club to call home this season.

It will be disappointing for Besiktas fans who idolised Gomez last season as he had a very succesful loan spell there while being registered by Fiorentina. His 28 goals in 41 league appearances led Besiktas to a championship winning season so the fact that Gomez will not be returning will be a major blow.

Would those goals and his performances in Euro 2016 be enough to get back in favour with the Viola or will he now have to look to go further afield. With a player of Gomez’s calibre you get the feeling that he won’t be too short of potential suitors.
