Quique Sanchez Flores takes charge of his Watford side for the final time after announcing on Friday that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Today he will go up against Sam Allardyce who has masterminded another survival this time at the hands of Sunderland.
It will be a party atmosphere for Sunderland as they go into the final day knowing that they don’t have to worry about getting a result to stay up. The celebrations started on Wednesday night after their 3-0 win over Everton, that was enough to send both Newcastle and Norwich down and secure their Premier League status for another season.
It wasn’t just that win on Wednesday that kept them up though it was the fact that they have only lost 1 out of their last 10 games. Slowly but surely Allardyce has worked his magic at The Stadium Of Light and today his Sunderland side can very much reap the rewards for their efforts over the last few weeks.
What Quique Sanchez Flores would have given for that form in the second half of the season. After starting the season so brightly, Watford have struggled for form in 2016 and that ultimately has been the Spaniard’s downfall. On the face of it, it may seem a harsh decision what with him reaching the objective of staying up and getting to the F.A. Cup Semi Finals but the performances have been pretty poor as of late and it seems as if he has run out of ideas.
The Pozzo family obviously feel they can get someone better in to continue the job and lets be honest their track record of hanging on to managers isn’t the greatest so although the decision to part company with the Ex Atletico Madrid Manager may seem harsh it’s hardly a surprise either.
He’ll want to go out on a high no doubt but whether Watford can find that I’m not sure as for Sunderland they will probably be on the beach after their work is done so don’t be surprised if this one ends in a draw. I also have a feeling this one could be last on Match of The Day as well.
