Watford vs Arsenal – Match Preview

Arsenal travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday looking for their first win of the season but once again Arsene Wenger’s matchday squad will be lacking personnel in the key areas. The Frenchman has drawn a blank in his bid to bring in any new players this week and with time running out before the end of the transfer window it could be a very bleak Autumn for fans of The Gunners.

Last Saturday saw them fortunate to leave Leicester with a point after Mark Clattenburg’s failure to award a late penalty to Claudio Ranieri’s side. Once again though Arsenal looked devoid of any real attacking force and Alexis Sanchez being utilised up top draw a blank.

Wenger will have to decide whether or not to try that for a third game in a row or does he finally start Oliver Giroud from the start. It’s slim pickings at the moment as fan pressure continues to build at The Emirates, how much more can they take. Failure to win on Saturday and it could get very ugly.

As for Watford they were unlucky to have been undone by Chelsea late on last weekend. Etienne Capoue bagged a second goal in as many weeks but they still came away empty handed after going in front. Walter Mazzari is still looking for his first Premier League win, he could do worse than finding it against Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger looks to have appeased the rabid Arsenal fanbase by lining up new recruits to join the club before the end of the month. He’s got the jump over Ronald Koeman and Everton in the race to capture the signing of Lucas Perez from Deportivo. Yes it’s a new striker but perhaps it’s not quite of the calibre that Gunners fans were hoping for, then again they may just have to be grateful that at least some reinforcements are on the way.

He may not be the only new face coming to The Emirates as Shkodran Mustafi’s move to Arsenal inches ever closer, Valencia have seemingly driven a hard bargain with £35m looking to be the fee required for the German international to leave The Mestalla. Not quite the amount that Wenger would have wanted to pay but he would be hard pressed to find the value he wants at this stage of the transfer window.

As for Today, you would have to think with Arsenal looking as close to full strength as they can be of late that they should pick up their first win of the season. I say should but this is an Arsenal side already under a lot of pressure, that will only increase if they don’t come away with all 3 points. I’ll go with an Away win but stranger things have happened.
