The big headline of the day will no doubt be the confirmation of Leroy Sane’s move to Manchester City as I mentioned in yesterday’s article. The 20 year old German international completed his move to The Etihad for £37m and will now link up with his new team mates with a view to making his debut against Sunderland next Saturday evening.
That’s not the only bit of activity that has taken place today though as Ronald Koeman is spending his summer transfer warchest with the signing of Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa. The Senegalese midfielder was one of the few players to come away from Villa’s nightmare season with any credit and it was no real surprise that a return to the Premier League was on the cards.
Once Everton had activated the release clause on Gueye’s contract then it was only left to agree terms with the former Lille player before the signature could be completed. You get the feeling it won’t be the last of Koeman’s transfer activity especially as he looks to snap up Ashley Williams from Swansea for £10m.
Talking of Swansea they haven’t signed anyone but at least they can announce that Icelandic star Gylfi Sigurdsson has signed a new contract. It’s been a frustrating close season in terms of player recruitment so this will definitely bring some cheer to South Wales. The focus now must be on trying to get in a new striker what with a trio of forwards leaving the Liberty Stadium this Summer.
And finally Schalke have completed the season long loan signing of Baba Rahman. The left back who was bought into Stamford Bridge last season didn’t quite make the slot his own and although he made 23 appearances he has deemed surplus to requirements for new manager Antonio Conte. He now links up with Markus Weinzierl who was his manager at Augsburg
