Tottenham vs Wycombe – Match Preview

After earning a point at The Etihad last Saturday Evening the focus for Tottenham now shifts to cup action and the hope of going all in the way in this years F.A. Cup competition. Today they play host to League Two Wycombe Wanderers at White Hart Lane.

With no disrespect to Wycombe you would imagine that the line up would be much changed from the one that came from 2-0 down to draw with Manchester City last weekend but some of those changes have had to be enforced due to a slightly worrying list of knocks to key players.

With Jan Vertonghen out injured already, Tottenham’s defensive plight would not have been helped by the fact that his Belgian compatriot Toby Alderweireld limped off during the second half at The Etihad. He will be rested today as a precautionary measure with Tuesday’s Premier League action in mind.

And it’s the same for both Danny Rose and Harry Kane, although they trained in the club’s midweek break to Barcelona they will also be rested for this tie therefore expect Ben Davies and Vincent Janssen to respectively fill the void.

For Janssen then he will be looking at this game, knowing he needs to produce a performance and one that brings a goal or two, the Dutch international had a torrid time in the previous round when at home to Aston Villa and the hope will be that he can offer something this afternoon.

Talking of a torrid time it will be interesting how the likes of Kevin Wimmer and Eric Dier cope with the massive handful which is Adebayo Akinfenwa. We all know how much of a nuisance he can be, but will the Wycombe forward be in ‘Beast Mode’ later Today.

Wycombe disposed of Stourbridge in the 3rd Round thanks to Akinfenwa’s winning header but they left it late in which to do so. That was a day they were nearly giant killed but they will be looking to turn the tables when they go up against Premier League opposition.

Unfortunately for them I think the Wycombe cup run ends Today as even without their star names Tottenham should have more than enough to make easy work of their opponents and progress into Monday’s 5th Round Draw. A routine home win for me.
