Real Football Man All of the Football, All of the time
It is just one win from their last five matches for Swansea with the other four resulting in defeat, the only result to break that unwanted streak was a 2-0 win over Huddersfield last month, Paul Clement’s men are in a precarious position and today they play host to Brighton at the Liberty Stadium.
In a week where Tammy Abraham has earned his first ever senior call up to the England squad off the back of his goalscoring exploits for Swansea the hope will be that his goalscoring exploits can earn them a much needed three points this afternoon.
Should results go against them today then they would find themselves in the bottom three with their lack of firepower set to be once again highlighted. Abraham has came out of these first few months with a lot of credit as his call up would suggest but he alone cannot drag Swansea out of the potential mire they could be about to land in.
Last weekend they traveled to Arsenal and did take the lead at The Emirates, not only that though it was from a player not called Tammy Abraham. Sam Clucas’ first half strike did give the traveling fans a large reason to believe but two second half strikes from the Gunners meant that their 100% home record this season stayed intact.
Once going behind Swansea just lacked organisation and any belief that they could get themselves back into the game and ultimately it meant they and their fans would make the long journey back to South Wales with nothing to show for it.
Brighon on the other hand manage to claw their way back into their meeting with Southampton last weekend after going behind to an early Steven Davis goal, Glenn Murray was on hand to nod home a second half equaliser to continue Brighton’s impressive run of results as of late.
After a shaky start many were questioning if Brighton were going to be cut out for life in the Premier League but it is fair to say that Chris Hughton’s men are adpating to the top flight and they sit in the relative comfort of 12th in the table.
A win for Brighton this afternoon could seem move into the top half of the table and put further daylight between themselves and the bottom three, a trio of clubs that Swansea could be a member of. If that is to be the case then the Seagulls will have to pick up their second away win of the season.
The first came just over a fortnight ago when they made the relatively short journey to West Ham and earned a 3-0 win over Slaven Bilic’s men. It was the kind of game where you have to question if the win was down to the Hammers being so bad or Brighton just being too good.
I think to say the Hammers were poor would detract somewhat from Brighton’s performance and it was a win that will give them huge confidence going forward and make them believe that they belong in this division not just this season but also for years to come.
The pressure is mounting on Swansea to get results, that is not to suggest that Paul Clement‘s employment status is in danger but as a team they need to start pulling in the same direction. As for the result later on, I think Brighton will get something whether it is a win though I’m not sure. I’ll sit on the fence and go with a draw.
