Sunderland vs Leicester – Match Preview

Could these be the day when the title race is all but won? Leicester could go as many as 10 points clear by 4:00pm this Afternoon, it may only be the case for a couple of hours but if they do stretch the gap that far then the pressure they will heap on Tottenham will be almost insurmountable.

But they still have work to do this Lunchtime as they go up against a Sunderland who are fighting for their lives right now in a bid to beat the drop. 3 draws in their last 3 games has seen decent enough performances but decent isn’t enough for them right now they need to find their extra level and turn those draws into wins.

Last time out they were held at home to a frustrating 0-0 draw against West Brom. West Brom who have already assured their Premier League status for another season where there for the taking but Sunderland couldn’t put them to the sword.

A mixture of not enough goals and not enough clean sheets has been Sunderland’s downfall this season, if they could have kept their noses infront against Southampton and Newcastle and snatched a winner last Saturday then they would be in a fair less precarious position. As it stands they need a win Today not only for themselves but to keep the title race alive.

1-0 to the Leicester seems to be the chant at the moment (I don’t think they are actually singing that to be fair) it’s 5 of those results in the last 6 matches and 16 points from a possible 18. Champions form in anyone’s book.

Last Sunday they again just did the necessary with Wes Morgan’s header enough to clear the hurdle of Southampton and move a step closer to ending this magical fairytale with the Premier League trophy come May 15

Jamie Vardy’s goals may have dried up as of late but there seems to be no real concern as not only is he doing the next best thing in making them but the rest of the team have pulled up the slack and also starting the find the net. No reliance on just player at the King Power and that is proving dividends

They had a stroke of luck last Sunday when Danny Simpson seemingly charged down Sadio Mane’s effort with an arm. Thankfully Michael Oliver decided not to give anything, it was probably the right decision but when you luck is with you then it’s certainly with you.

If Leicester can overcome Sunderland then they are agonisingly close to winning the title but going up against a team fighting for survival is never easy and Sam Allardyce’s side have to get a win or they are going to be in real trouble.

Sunderland have to win, Leicester just don’t have to lose in fairness. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 1-0 win to Leicester again such is their run of results as of late. While the whole of North London will be hoping that this Black Cat is incredibly unlucky. Head says away win but the devil in me says a Sunderland win just to keep the title race alive.
