Southampton vs Tottenham – Match Preview

Southampton striker Graziano Pelle could return to the starting line-up after having an injection to treat an ongoing knee problem.

Maarten Stekelenburg’s toe injury means Paulo Gazzaniga will continue in goal.

Tottenham could make a late decision on the fitness of Mousa Dembele, who has returned to training after illness.

Clinton Njie is out with a knee problem, while Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard both remain unavailable due to ankle injuries.

Editor’s Note: Tottenham will look to bounce back from their defeat last Sunday at home to Newcastle which ended their record breaking Premier League unbeaten run. The North London side spurned the chance to move into the Top 4 and have only returned 2 points from their last 3 matches.

They missed  the energy of Mousa Dembele against Newcastle and will be hoping he is fit enough to return today for their visit to St Mary’s stadium, a place that last time they visited resulted in a share of the points.

Spurs need a win to make sure they are not cast adrift of the Champions League places as they are already find themselves 9 points behind league leaders Leicester. One criticism you could apply to Tottenham is that they draw games that they should have won and give up opportunities to kick on up the table so a win today would silence any murmurs.

They go up against a Southampton side who aren’t having the best time of it lately as they have only drawn 1 game in the last 4 and now find themselves in 12th place in the Premier League.

It’s fair to say that they are going through somewhat of a slump at the moment and that has coincided with the injury to Graziano Pelle, so Ronald Koeman will be sweating on his inclusion today as he looks to get his Saints marching back up the table.

Today though I think the march will have to be delayed as Tottenham will bounce back from last week’s shock defeat and come away with all 3 points. An away win for me.

  1. This is a must win for Totenham if they really want the top 4 sport
