Southampton vs Chelsea – Match Preview

Southampton have been impenetrable in the last 6 matches, that has coincided with the return of Fraser Forster who has kept 6 clean sheets in a row and has enabled The Saints to move up to 6th in the Premier League table.

Their season has seen quite the turn around and with a campaign that looked close to being sucked into a potential relegation scrap come early January they are now looking at the possibility of Europa League Football for the second season in a row.

It’s certainly been handy that Southampton are rock solid at the back with them only managing to score 3 times in their last 4 outings but Ronald Koeman will be happy enough that these clean sheets and subsequent unbeaten run has given the last third of their season a much sunnier outlook.

Today they go up against a Chelsea side who are currently one of the form sides in the Premier League with Guus Hiddink yet to taste defeat in the competition since taking charge as Interim Manager for a second spell and the club unbeaten in 10 Premier League matches,

It will be a Double Dutch clash as Ronald Koeman takes on Guus Hiddink this Afternoon, last month it was reported that the Southampton Manager was hoping his compatriot could put in a good word for him with the Chelsea higher ups. A win today and that would do the talking for him

Chelsea are slowing turning their season around and trying to salvage something from what has been somewhat of a shipwreck, a win Today could see them move into the top half of the table if other results go their way.

Last Weekend they strolled to victory of Manchester City in the F.A. Cup with a 5-1 thumping of Manchester City, although Chelsea looked good it was literally a case of Men vs Boys with Manuel Pellegrini resting so many players due Champions League commitments last night

I have a feeling that Southampton’s unbeaten run and for that matter Guus Hiddink’s run also will stay intact with honours being even at The St Mary’s Today. That said I think Fraser Forster will finally have his net breached after 6 clean sheets in a row. A score draw for me.
