So if Tottenham did all this business in the BBC Sport Gossip Column today

spurs

It seems as if Tottenham could be busy in the transfer market over the next couple of days – well that is if you were to believe every thing you read on the BBC Sport Gossip Column today, let’s take a look at what they are saying shall we. (I’ll add my thoughts in bold)

Tottenham will try to sign Manchester United winger Ashley Young, 30, after being put off by Crystal Palace’s £25m asking price for DR Congo midfielder Yannick Bolasie, 26. – £25m for Bolasie, absolutely no chance! – Could be useful signing at half the price but for someone who is exciting because you don’t know what he is going to do, the problem is that he doesn’t know what he’s going to do either, no way is he worth £25m even in today’s age. As for Ashley Young, I suppose it would depend on what the fee would be but that wouldn’t be a bad bit of business, certainly saw a bit of resurgence at Manchester United last season and could be a useful addition at White Hart Lane.

Crystal Palace have shown late interest in signing Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor from Spurs but the 31-year-old will instead join Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal. Also interestingly Aston Villa are aiming to have the most immobile attack line as they discussing terms with ex Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov. It’s finally happening (hopefully), Adebayor “fans” will be able to mark on their boom and bust cycles that Adebayor will now get 12 goals for Aston Villa this season earning him a new contract for 2016/17 at Villa Park in which he will then fall out with Tim Sherwood and be made to train with the kids. But ultimately if he leaves Tottenham then it’s not our problem.

Everton’s Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy, 24, is disillusioned at Goodison Park and will open talks with Tottenham about a move to White Hart Lane. This name keeps cropping up over the past couple of months, this one could be a very realistic proposition and a useful addition to the midfield area, would also be an upgrade on Ryan Mason in the first eleven.

Tottenham and Romania central defender Vlad Chiriches, 25, is close to completing a £4.5m move to Italian side Napoli. £3m less than what we paid for him, another sign of “Bale Money” wastage. Not many tears if at all will be shed if he thankfully does go.

Inter Milan and FC Porto are both interested in signing Spurs’ 23-year-old forward Erik Lamela, with a season-long loan deal possible for the Argentina international. This is being reported by Talksport, if “The Moose” is anywhere near this story then it’s not going to happen

And Villarreal’s manager, Marcelino, would like to bring Tottenham’s Spain striker Roberto Soldado, 30, back to La Liga. Marcelino he’s all yours, when will you be around to collect the delivery?

So to summarise that’s:

In’s – Ashley Young, James McCarthy

Out’s – Emmanuel Adebayor, Vlad Chiriches, Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado

If that was all to happen (bar Lamela going out on Loan) then I say that would be the last of the deadwood to leave the club and then the focus must turn to getting some support strikers in for Harry Kane. We could be leaving ourselves incredibly light for the first game of the season against Manchester United next Saturday.

If we can sort out the Saido Berahino deal in the next week then that’s two forwards but we still could do with at least one more option up top. Then again I’m sure the club are fully aware of this and just aren’t planning on running Harry Kane into the ground due to lack of other options (well I hope that’s not the case anyway).

Ashley Young and James McCarthy would be useful inclusions to the squad, are they perfect inclusions…not sure but at least the right areas are being identified, now it’s just a case of getting the right players. If they were to get Young, McCarthy and Berahino in then that would probably be the end of our transfer business this summer, it’s now just a case of how early we can get it wrapped up?.
