Wolfsburg will go to the Santiago Bernabeu looking to protect their 2-0 advantage from the first leg but with Real Madrid as your opposition that is going to no mean feat. In what was the shock result of last week Wolfsburg outclassed a lethargic Real who were obviously suffering an El Clasico hangover.
Zinedine Zidane’s bounced back from their Champions League upset to brush past Eibar on Saturday Night with Cristiano Ronaldo getting in the record books again. This time it was for being the first man to score 30 goals in 6 consecutive La Liga seasons. But personal accolade’s will mean nothing if they don’t progress in the tournament and Cristiano is going to have to probably add to his 90 Champions League goals if they are to have any hope of overturning the deficit.
That win also sees them move to just 4 points behind Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title but those thoughts have to go on the backburner as Zinedine Zidane’s has sent out a warcry to his players as they look to win an 11th European Cup for the club,
Their opponents Wolfsburg shocked the whole of Europe and probably the Footballing world last Wednesday with a comfortable 2-0 win, Andre Schurrle could and most probably should have made it 3-0 but he fired his chance over the bar. How costly could that opportunity to kill off the tie prove to be.
They’ve been saving their best for the Champions League this season with their Bundesliga form struggling to match that of last season, a 1-1 draw with Mainz on Saturday has killed off all hopes of European Football this season, that is unless they do the unthinkable and go on and win the competition.
They won’t be looking that far just yet as they have to worry about the impending task ahead of them. I think Real will win Tonight but the question is whether they can do enough to qualify. The romantic in me says that Wolfsburg can hold out and progress to the Semi Finals, I guess it all depends what mood Cristiano Ronaldo is in. I’ll go Madrid win on the night and maybe even Extra Time.
