Real Madrid ended last night still three points clear of arch rivals Barcelona even though they only drew at home to Villarreal earlier in the evening.
They would have been delighted that their cross town rivals Atletico did them a favour and held to Barcelona to a 1-1 draw at The Nou Camp.
It was the same score at The Bernabeu as Real were held by The Yellow Submarine of Villarreal. That draw cost Los Blancos the opportunity to make history by recording a 17th straight La Liga victory.
Bruno Soriano put the cat among the pigeons just before the half time when he put Villarreal ahead, he pounced on a Sergio Ramos error to put his side ahead.
But it was Ramos who atoned for his earlier error soon after the restart as his header restored parity at one goal apiece.
That was the end of the scoring for the night and there would have been a tense wait for the Barcelona result to come through but the situation is pretty much unchanged.
Real still stay top of the La Liga tree but it’s Sevilla who currently sit second just two points behind Zinedine Zidane’s men.
