Real Madrid vs Roma – Match Preview

Real Madrid have one foot in the Quarter Finals after their 2-0 win against Roma in the first leg of this tie, the win in the Italian Capital certainly puts Zinedine Zidane’s side in the driving seat and you would be very brave to bet against them progressing further tonight.

Real were rampant as they beat Celta Vigo 7-1 on Saturday at The Bernabeu, after losing the Madrid Derby 10 Days ago they have recorded successive wins in La Liga but still find themselves 12 points off the top from their biggest rivals Barcelona.

With the lead at the top being so sizeable you would have to imagine that The Champions League offers Real Madrid their only realistic chance of silverware this season. It would be quite the achievement if Zinedine Zidane’s first trophy as a Manager was the richest prize in European Club Football and an 11th for the club in total.

Madrid will be further boosted by the possibility of Gareth Bale making his first appearance for the club since January 17th. The ex Tottenham man will be hoping there are no more injury issues between now and the end of the season as he looks to be fit and healthy enough to lead Wales into EURO 2016 battle.

But for now he needs to make sure his performances for Madrid are worthy of that record price tag back in 2013, it’s fair to say that there is still an element of the Madrid fanbase that haven’t been overly enamored with his performances as background talk of a move back to the Premier League seems to persist.

Tonight they go up against a Roma side who are currently 3rd in Serie A and aiming to qualify for next season’s edition of the competition. Since Luciano Spalletti has returned to take charge their season has seen quite the turnaround.

Last time out they beat closest rivals Fiorentina 4-1 to create a 3 point gap to 4th while they are now 7 games unbeaten. Mohammed Salah bagging a brace against his former club at the Stadio Olimpico over the Weekend in what was a convincing victory

They’ll need more of the same tonight if they are to have any hope of not only beating but progressing past Real Madrid Tonight. Unfortunately for them I think to Milan and the final is closed after this evening. With Real in full swing I can’t see anything more than a home win for Los Merengues and a place in the Quarter Finals where the draw is open and who knows Barcelona could be just around the corner.
