Real Madrid vs Levante – Match Highlights

Real Madrid’s stuttering start to the La Liga season and more importantly their defence of the title continued yesterday lunchtime as they were held to a second home draw in succession. Before the international break it was Valencia and this time around it was Levante who returned to eastern Spain with a share of the points.

Los Blancos are still without Cristiano Ronaldo and it showed yesterday as they stuttered in front of their own fans at the Santiago Bernabeu especially as it would be Levante who would take the lead and silence the fans of the reigning Champions League winners of the past two seasons.

It would only take 12 minutes for the deadlock to be broken as Ivi showed a neat bit of skill before firing into the net, he spun right back Dani Carvajal around to the point he was lost and then had a free hit at Kaylor Navas’ goal. From there it was easy and then also 1-0 Levante.

That stunned Real Madrid as they look laboured in the the lunchtime sun but they would managed to find parity before the break. Lucas Vazquez would be on hand to prod home after Sergio Ramos saw an initial header saved by Raul Fernandez.

The second half would see Zinedine Zidane’s side press on for the winner but they failed to break down Levante’s stubborn resistance. They may well have missed the exceptional talents of Cristiano Ronaldo but it is fair to say that Gareth Bale did not have a particularly good game either.

As frustrations built for Real Madrid, they day would go from bad to worse late on when Marcelo was shown a Red Card with just a minute remaining. The Brazilian left back boiled over and lashed out at Jefferson Lerma, an action that subsequently saw him given his marching orders.

Real Madrid’s next fixture is against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League but more importantly they have already given up a 4 point deficit to Barcelona in the early stages of La Liga.

Here are the highlights
